University Women’s Club Wedding – Maxine & Tony

University Women’s Club Wedding – Maxine & Tony

It was wonderful to return to Mayfair for the University Women’s Club wedding of Maxine and Tony. This was the third wedding we had covered at the University Women’s Club and it’s always a pleasure to return and catch up with Lorraine and her team. Lorraine herself was getting married 2 weeks later but it was with great sadness that we were already booked and were unable to cover her own Jersey wedding. Maxine and Tony’s wedding stands out to us for lots of reasons, the first was finding out 3 days before the wedding that Maxine in one of my dearest friends, older sister. It was a goosebump moment when we were chatting about our weekend plans, to find out that we were both attending Mayfair Weddings only to find out it was the same one !  hahahaha, how freaky is that?

Well, the 25th of August will also stick in my mind for other reasons, firstly it’s my birthday, but most importantly in 2012, it was the day when we had the most torrential rain over South London! Our day started in Wandsworth at Maxine and Tony’s beautifully decorated home and the sun was out. The atmosphere was full of fun despite the storm clouds brewing up.  Maxine’s bridesmaids, one of whom had flown in from Florida for the big day, looked magnificent and the house slowly filled up with other relatives dropping in to wish her well with brother Eddie taking on the major role of giving Maxine away.  Time slipped slightly as we waited for the rain to pass, but sadly it persistantly stayed, so off we went to the church.  The service was lovely with the added sound effects from the thunder and lightning, which gave added gravitas!   The service over and the brollies up, everyone ran to the Routemaster Bus which took us to the University Women’s Club for the Reception.

The great thing about having a  University women’s club wedding is that the library and other rooms are so gorgeous with amazing light, that they become a wonderful backdrop for our portraits, so the rain didn’t stop us getting lovely shots.  With the rain finally blowing over just before the wedding breakfast, we were able to do a quick group shot outside Because we are 2 photographer team, we were able to have Don on the upstairs balcony above the gardens whilst I was amongst the guests to get 2 very different views of Maxine and Tony walking through the confetti storm ! The last thing that sticks in my mind was the speeches. Their best man is clearly very dear to Maxine and Tony and his love for them as a couple overwhelmed him a little during his speech.  It was very touching and not often you see such a close bond between friends.

If you’re considering using the University Women’s club for your wedding, get in touch and we can give the inside track on using this fabulous and historic venue, the food is pretty good there too !!
