07 Nov Sikh Wedding at Southall Gurdwara
We were delighted to be contacted by Manjinder and Anil who are based in New York, but had been recommended to us by friends of the very lovely Leanne and Abhi, whose wedding celebrations we had covered in London a couple of years ago. We were booked to cover the wedding party, the Sikh wedding at the Havelock Road Southall Gurdwara and the separate reception over four days and, as with all Indian weddings, we were welcomed everywhere we went and had the most fantastic time with the families who had travelled from all over the globe to celebrate with Manjinder and Anil.
This set of images comes from the wedding day itself which took place at the Gurdwara in Havelock Road Southall, which is one of the largest in the country. We of course started preparations very early and arrived with Manjinder at home for 6.00am to start coverage of getting ready. The house was full and buzzing. A huge coach arrived to take us all from the family home in Bucks into Southall. A brief rain shower greeted us as Manjinder arrived and hid away with her bridal party whilst Anil and family completed the Jaan arrival ceremony at the front of the Gurdwara, and in the very impressive foyer.
After a traditional Indian breakfast we entered the Gurdwara, it really is a majestic place with stunning windows and a large space for worship. After the ceremony we were able to spend some time with Manjinder and Anil to capture the moments immediately after they became husband and wife before we all returned to the family home where Anil followed tradition and bartered with Manjinder’s female relatives to gain access to the house and to claim his bride.
The following day we went to Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge to celebrate the wedding in the most fantastic style. But, I’ll write a separate post for that part of the celebrations. In the meantime we hope you enjoy these images and if you are planning your own Indian Wedding, like our style and images and would like to chat though your plans, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
