04 May Newton Hall Wedding – Rowena & Michael
Newton Hall Wedding.
I had a feeling this was going to be a long post! It’s not often that you find yourself covering a 2 day wedding celebration in London and finishing, for us at least, at 10.15pm on a Saturday. Followed by another the next day, 6 hours drive away. That’s exactly what happened a few weeks ago when we travelled from London for a Newton Hall Wedding in Northumberland, 90 minutes south of Edinburgh! Well there are times when you just have to go for it and I have to tell you it was worth every minute of trying ot stay awake to keep Don company on the drive up. We stopped in Leeds at 1.15am (thank you Travelodge) and after a short sleep had a quick breakfast (thank you McDonalds) before heading up to Newton Hall.
We first met Rowena and Michael at last years Earls Court wedding fair and were thrilled when they booked us for an unknown, at the time, wedding venue. They knew they wanted us for the photography, they just didnt know where just yet ! That said it was always going to be in the North East, Michael grew up in the area. Without being too mushy and gushy this wedding was as close to a perfect day as you can get. The bridesmaids and groomsmen knew they had an important role to play, they were all brilliant, and helped to make the day float by.
The room Rowena was given to get ready in was like walking into the set for a magazine shoot, utterly lovely and a perfect setting for Rowena and her girls to prepare for the ceremony. From my point of view it was a treat to have some time to do some portrait shots of the bridal party before the ceremony as it often doesn’t happen so it felt like a luxury to have that amount of time. The ceremony was at 3.00pm and was very touching, after which we all decamped to the blue drawing rooms in the main house. The weather was doing its usual thing of sun for as long as several seconds, and then rain followed by a little more sun. As a result we didn’t spend too much time outside until some amazing late afternoon light flooded the reception room and we whizzed out to get the silhouette shot (our new fave) and a few others.
This lovely Newton Hall wedding moved onto the evening with a group of guests performing a fabulous Bollywood dance, which was a wonderful surprise for Michael. This was followed by the throwing of the bouquet and onto the dancing. We felt like we had been unplugged by the time it came for us to leave and spent an extra day, after a long sleep, walking on the Northumbrian coast whilst reliving what had been a wonderful day. Take a look at these pictures and judge for yourselves.
I’ve written a separate post about Newton Hall as it merits a closer look and was justifiably featured in the recent “Weddings” magazine as one of the top venues in the country. If you’re planning your own Newton Hall wedding and would like us to create your wedding collection, then please don’t hesitate to get in contact. It is a long way, but so rewarding and well worth it !
