Woburn Pre-Wedding

When I left home for this “re-arranged because of the weather” Woburn pre-wedding shoot, it was a very welcome, and so rare for this mid-May, warm and sunny afternoon. Fifteen minutes later I found myself in Woburn in the middle of a ferocious hale storm and more rain! Thankfully Sally had called to say ‘hold tight” as this weather had already blown through at home. So off to the Black Horse we went whilst we waited for the rain to leave, and leave us it did. Sadly a piercing cold wind stayed behind, which was a huge shame after the effort Anna and James had taken to prepare for the shoot. All said and done we had a ball capturing these images for Anna & James’s Woburn Pre-wedding session. Their wedding is in high summer and has a 1950′s theme, which we’re super excited about. Mainly because it’s a great excuse for us to go shopping! Now, what does a photographer wear to a 1950′s wedding? Re-visit the blog in a few months to find out!

Milton Keynes Pre-Wedding Photography

It was lovely to use Loughton, where we live, for this pre-wedding photography session with Claire and David. We’re lucky to have some wonderful lakes and walks nearby that work as a perfect backdrop for these informal pre-wedding photography sessions we enjoy so much. A delightful set of relaxed pictures was the result of this pre-wedding shoot and both Claire and David left feeling a lot less self conscious about there wedding day pictures than when they arrived, they were even happier when the got to see the results a few days later. We’re really looking forward to their wedding day at Ponsbourne Park in a few weeks time.

Whoever you use for your wedding photography it’s important to feel at ease having them around and to feel confident you’ll love the results. These sessions go a long way to making that happen for us, and our couples. Keep an eye out for more pre-wedding shoots as well as several recent weddings posting soon, it’s that time of year and at last the sun has come out.

Yardley Hastings Wedding

It was a pure pleasure to be with Becs and Rob for their Yardley Hastings Wedding. As with all weddings so far this year, the weather was on every ones mind, particularly as the marquee had to be moved due to its original location being flooded!, but luck was on our side (again! ) and their vintage themed, homemade styled English country wedding came together perfectly.We could write a book about this Yardley Hastings Wedding, it was so full of personality and style. The wedding was late afternoon so everyone met up 2 hours earlier at the reception venue for cocktails and a bouncy castle. Becs looked amazing in her pre-wedding dress and it was funny to watch her on the bouncy castle in what some thought was her wedding dress… little did they know that just before the service, we snuck off to make a swift change into a stunning beaded dress. The vicar was on old family friend who returned to the village to conduct the ceremony which also played host to the most brilliant gospel choir that we’ve ever heard. The marquee at the Yardley Hastings Memorial hall was decorated in a highly detailed faithful vintage style and played host to an exquisite tea party and wedding speeches that had everyone, including us, in stitches.

Bisham Abbey Wedding

Following our London pre-wedding session with Corrie & Paul earlier in the spring, the day finally arrived when we were off for their Ickenham & Bisham Abbey Wedding. As with all our recent weddings the weather threatened to play more than a bit part in the day, but again we rode our luck and the clouds whilst gray at times, kept their rain and we stayed dry, if a little chilli, but hey, no one minds that and the excitement of the day was all we needed. Corrie leads a local guides troup and the girls came along to the service to give them a guard of honour to exit the church, it was charming and a fitting tribute to how well loved Corrie is amongst the team. We then moved onto Bisham Abbey for the wedding reception and what a lovely venue Bisham Abbey is for a Wedding reception. Newly renovated, it has lots of nooks and cranny’s to explore and the grounds meander down to the River Thames, so it gives a lovely peaceful setting.

Wedding Photography in Leighton Buzzard

Despite being very close to Milton Keynes, this was our first Wedding photography in Leighton Buzzard and it was certainly a day that will stay in our minds for a long long time. We woke to rain and it persistently stayed with us all day long, but honestly the joy, laughter and the outright thrill of having all of their amazing friends and family around them, made the weather a side show as Lauren and Ryan’s wedding was great fun. Having both grown up in Leighton Buzzard and kept a great group of friends around them, their wedding day was very touching. From a photography perspective, working in the rain, just means you are telling a different type of story and you have to adjust what kind of images you can take. It was too wet to take pictures outside after the ceremony, so we closed the doors and went back to the alter for some family memento photographs, which at least allowed us to show the splendour of the church given that the vicar had made the decision that no photographs could be taken during the service . This is something that sometimes happens and I can only think that someone has overstepped the mark in the past, so rather than capture a full range of images, we very discretely took one or two quick shots.

It was then to Eversholt Hall for the reception, which is in a lovely setting and Lauren & Ryan had found the most amazing string quartet called ‘A String of Pearls”, who were just amazing and we would highly recommend them. It was a lovely wedding, the weather was mean to us that day, but despite its best efforts, it didnt dampen the mood or spirit of this lovely couple who we hope have had an amazing honeymoon.

St Michaels Manor Wedding Photography

It’s always lovely to be with friends, and last weekend we were delighted to be with Anne & Ed, this time as their St Michaels Manor Wedding Photography team . The weather, as you all know, has been deeply challenging for the past few weeks and Anne & Ed’s day was forecasted to be primarily gray… well,how wrong were they ? We had lovely sunshine whilst the guests were arriving and again after the ceremony before the sumptuous tea party took place with just a few drops of rain during our quick portrait session. St Michael’s Manor in St Albans is a wonderful location regardless of the weather forecast and as wedding photographers it was a dream place to be . Anne got ready in an fabulous and spacious room and the light pouring in gave us some of the most beautiful images of Anne, her mum and two lovely daughters as they prepared for Anne & Eds big moment. Anne’s dutch family and friends got the reception off to a wonderfully festive start by spontaneously bursting into song and a group of mischievous friends all dressed in orange dresses as they highlighted Anne’s amusement at our tradition of bridesmaids all wearing the same dress. They kept themselves covered up and gave Anne the big reveal after the ceremony. All in all, it was great fun, highly emotional and a wonderful day.

West Malling Wedding Photography

Our very good friend Joce introduced us to Gemma & Ross, so it was a thrill to be booked to visit Kent for their West Malling Wedding . Wedding Photography is a fairly challenging and adrenaline filled job, and it will be no surprise to anyone reading this that April has been a shocker for rain. Well, picture the scene as we drive down to West Malling the day before the wedding and had to shout to be heard in the car because the hailstones were so loud on the roof of the car ! Fast forward to the wedding day and we woke to a hint of blue sky that somehow, through some miracle ,stayed with us for the entire day. Some one was looking after us in the lovely town of West Malling. Now, I have to tell you about the most amazing wedding shoes I have ever seen. Gemma with her exquisite taste (her dress being testament to that ) went all out for an exclusive design by Jimmy Choo who only made one pair in each size, so as you can imagine, these shoes deserve special mention and a compilation image all of their own ! The service was quite special with an emotionally charged sermon given by the vicar who very generously gave us free reign during the service ( many don’t and if you’re planning your wedding, you should check with your celebrant ). So on we went to The Friars at Aylesford, which is a breathtaking venue for those seeking a retreat from the pressures of today’s world. The Shrine itself is very peaceful and understandable not a venue to be photographed as it needs to be respected. That said, all around it are great ponds and vistas so we made the most of a stroll round the grounds. The wedding breakfast was held in The North Barn at The Friars and was great fun and had brilliant spontaneous speeches that were very funny. Anyway, enough from me. Great Barn Aynho Wedding.

We met Carl and Clare at the Milton Keynes Wedding fair where they booked us for their Great Barn Aynho Wedding. Their wedding was the first of our 2012 season and it was wonderful to get back into the rhythm of wedding photography again. Clare got ready at her parents house in the wonderful village of Evenley and it was a rare treat to be able to see the venue for the ceremony – St Georges Church, Evenley – from the house, which meant we could see the guests arriving and milling around at the church whilst Clare and her bridesmaids got ready. Earlier this year, we met up with Carl and Clare in the West End of London for their prewedding photosession.They were keen to have a London theme flowing through their day so a fabulous London bus bought guests to the church in Evenley and was an excellent choice to transport everyone to The Great Barn in Aynho for a wonderful reception. True to the London theme their wedding cake was one of the most impressive we’ve seen, with Big Ben, tube signs, London cabs and buses all decorating the most fabulous cake. It was a great to be involved in this great wedding, the food was amazing and the speeches were quite brilliant and Clare and Carl looked delighted to finally be man and wife as they beamed through their day. Best man Rob did a sterling job as he took on the role of gathering up friends and family for a range of group shots which made that part of the day flow very smoothly.

The Great Barn at Aynho is a wonderful venue for a wedding and with two fabulous real fires blazing away, it had a wonderful cozy feeling. If you’re considering having your wedding at The Great Barn, please dont hesitate to contact us for your wedding photography.

Southbank prewedding shoot

We love coming into London for pre-wedding sessions, so we were really pleased to head into town for a Southbank prewedding shoot. That afternoon we had all four seasons of weather in the space of 2 hours, but thats April for you and it wouldn’t be right if we didn’t have a few showers. The Southbank is great for a prewedding shoot as there are so many iconic images to create and for Rebecca and James it was the place of their first date, or more precisely they met up at the London Eye, so it was totally appropriate that we met on the Embankment so we could get some great across the river shots with the eye as supporting cast. This session was very relaxed and great fun which ended with a bottle of Rose on the upper deck garden of the National Theatre. A gem of a location with a fully functioning kitchen garden, check it out next time you’re down by the river.

Documentary Wedding Photographers go to NYC

Whilst the lovely weather hit the UK, we flew off to Washington and New York for a little spring break of our own. As wedding photographers, summer holidays are no longer an option so it’s just as well we are at our happiest wandering our world cities, taking in the culture, the landscape and most importantly the food and drink ! We love being documentary wedding photographers and this is also our natural goto style when we are away. There is something magical about capturing a moment that can never be repeated and is gone in the blink of an eye. I loved the guys who were busking down in the subway and this trip to NY included a visit to Coney Island, which had a decayed air but was fab for photo’s and a visit to Nathans’ Famous Hotdogs.

I would heartily recommend staying in Harlem. We loved it and were made so very welcome everywhere we went. Our home for the week was the Easy Living Harlem B&B. If you take the time to get to know the owners (Heidi and Thomas) they will share with you Harlems best kept secrets including the most amazing jazz club you will ever experience, Im not a jazz fan, but I was blown away by these amazing musicians, im just dispointed that I didnt take the camera out that night ! .

I think this was our 15th visit to NYC, it gets into your soul and we find we need a fix of NY air every year or two. Here are just a few little shots, which I hope you’ll enjoy.
