Hatfield House Wedding. Mike and Miranda

We’d been looking forward to this Hatfield House wedding for some time.  Mike and Miranda booked us at the Earls Court Wedding Fair last autumn and we were as pleased as Punch. The Old Palace at Hatfield House has been on our wish list of venues to shoot for some time.   I arrived to photograph Miranda at the wonderful Rigsby’s, a boutique B&B in Hertford, and we had a lovely relaxed morning.  The last 10 minutes were a bit of a blur as we gathered everything up and got ourselves over to Hatfield House as everyone wanted to be at the venue ahead of time.  The best bit about leaving early was that my cab hadn’t yet appeared, so Miranda, to my amazement and great joy invited me into the stunning Rolls Royce booked for the 20 minute journey. (very happy about that.)

Don was already at Hatfield with the guests and ready to capture Miranda in her last moments before going in to be married.   The service was beautiful and punctuated with three lovely readings.  If you haven’t been to Hatfield House I urge you to go. The ceremony room was the one used for the first Queen Elizabeth’s inaugural parliament and is steeped in our country’s history, which made it all the more special and a true privilege to be able to shoot there.

We then moved out into the grounds which is beautifully planted with a low level hedge forming a knot garden just outside the main doors. Unfortunately Don didn’t see the hedge and, backing up to get a shot, toppled, rather inelegantly, into the shrubbery! He survived with nothing more than injured pride and, trying not to laugh too hard, we eventually leapt to his assistance.  Sandra, who was photographing with us, had the presence of mind to capture the moment, but I guess it would be unfair to show it here!

Miranda’s family had travelled from New Zealand and the wonderful speeches included a traditional Maori song performed acapella by Miranda and the extended family. A beautiful moment.

All in all this is a spectacular venue and Mike and Miranda paid it due respect and created a stunning and extremely elegant wedding.  Congratulations to you both, it was treat to be involved in your day.x
