23 Aug Greenwich Yacht Club wedding
Oh, where to start with this fabulous, fabulous wedding? Perhaps at the end. We drove away from this Greenwich Yacht Club wedding on an enormous high after a magical day. The sunset that night was stunning and a fitting end to a spectacular wedding day. Sally started with Jyoti, she was getting ready at her Mother’s house in Greenwich, while I was round the corner with Frankie having his turban tied ready for the first of the two ceremonies to be held at Greenwich Yacht Club that day.
The wedding party looked beautiful in all their finery and we adored this thoughtful and tender ceremony, which unusually involved the couple in the rituals far more than we usually see at a Sikh wedding. Lunch was served and then we escaped off for an ultra quick portrait session before heading to the Hilton so Jyoti could change into her white wedding dress. Frankie and his brother, who performed his Best Man duties heroically on the day, returned home to change into their 1960’s inspired suits. Key thing to note… don’t expect the security guard to have pity on you at the hotel car park barrier if you haven’t got your parking ticket stamped from reception!! He sent the girls back to the hotel despite it being clear that they had a bride in the car needing to get to her wedding ceremony. I guess he had a job to do and it did make us laugh in the end but it was a “you couldn’t make it up” moment!
After the civil ceremony, and one of the most touching and funny Best Man speeches we’ve ever heard, we headed of for another very quick portrait session down by the Thames. As we finished there two fabulous food trucks arrived to serve wonderful Fish and Chips and Pizza! Heaven, and the perfect accompaniment for this chilled out day. After the cake was cut, Jyoti and Frankie wowed the guests with a brilliant choreographed first dance, the fabulous Sister Sledge track ‘Thinking of You’, that set the tone for the night and kept the dance floor full to bursting. It was a great night. To say we loved this wedding is something of an understatement. It was filled with beautiful homemade details, loving and kind people, fabulous clothes and a sunset to die for… a little piece of perfection right there at Greenwich Yacht Club.
If you’re thinking of booking your wedding here, don’t hesitate, it’s a unique venue full of character and one we would be delighted to return to.
