06 Jul Fonmon Castle Wedding and National Museum of Wales Reception
We travelled to Cardiff the day before Chris and Shoma’s Fonmon Castle Wedding. It was a beautiful Friday which was lovely but the wedding day itself was scheduled to be full of rain so our recce of both Fonmon Castle and the National Museum of Wales was focussed on planning indoor shots and how we were going to do group shots away from the rain. So recce done, we went back to our hotel and planned our coverage. I left Don on the wedding morning so I could meet up with Shoma at her parents magnificent home just along from the BBC and yes it was raining cats and dogs at this point and I was grateful for the boot full of brollies. Happily the weather man got it fantastically wrong and just as we were due to leave to head to Fonmon Castle for the wedding service, the clouds parted and the sun showed its face and then proceeded to stay with us all day !
You’ll recognise Chris and Shoma from their pre-wedding images in London which contrast nicely with both Fonmon Castle and The National Museum of Wales. The wedding room in Fonmon Castle is very intimate and beautiful with its own little side staircase so,upon arrival, Shoma and the bridesmaids could be hidden away from the guests and make a lovely entrance through the double doors at the far end. An afternoon tea was served for the guests out on the lawn before we headed back to Cardiff for their hugely impressive and imposing National Museum of Wales Wedding reception. It was a huge thrill to be photographing the cocktail hour amongst Turners, Monets and The Thinker. The museum which closed at 5.00 was transformed into a beautifully lit reception venue and if that didn’t take your breath away, then the ariel display artist certainly did !
We loved being part of Chris and Shoma’s day. With several hundred guests, this was a large wedding, but Chris and Shoma and their parents went out of their way to make sure we were included and whilst we always appreciate being part of such an intimate day this wedding will stay with us because of the care everyone took over each other and we were delighted to document Chris and Shoma’s first day of their long and happy marriage and we wish them lots of luck for the future. x
