05 May Asian Wedding East Wintergarden Canary Wharf
So, here is the finale. After an emotional and joyous week we reached the Asian Wedding at East Wintergarden in Canary Wharf, the final event of Leanne and Abhi‘s amazing wedding celebrations. The sun came out and on reflection the weather had been kind all week. Canary Wharf at the weekend is very quiet so it felt like we had the entire location to ourselves. Once Leanne was ready, we snuck out for some quick portraits before the guests arrived, it was very important that no one saw Leanne in her wedding Sahri until she approached the Mandap. After the portraits Leanne was hidden away, and the drum procession began. Two of Abhi’s friends had taken on the task of beating the rhythm for Abhi’s Jaan, the arrival of the grooms family, who move as one while dancing and singing along the path to be met by Leanne’s sister Freya who performed the first Pokhwanu ritual. The Hindu wedding ceremony is full of traditional elements including tying the knot and Mangal Ferea, which sees the couple walk around the sacred fire four times to symbolise the walk of life and each making promises to love and care for each other and their extended families followed by the seven vows and the other rituals which were observed by Leanne and Abhi.
With the ceremony completed and once lunch had been served Leanne and Abhi took the blessings from the elder members of the family before leaving the East Wintergarden to start their married life. Everyone came out to wave them goodbye and the girls from Leanne’s family attempted to stop them leaving making sure that Abhi paid a fee to allow them to pass !
It was very emotional for us saying goodbye to Leanne and Abhi, it had been a long but quite brilliant week. It was the most enormous privilege to be involved in these celebrations and to be welcomed and included so wholeheartedly by both families and the guests in all of the many events of the week. When you spend such a concentrated amount of time with a couple you feel a connection that you hope will stay with you. So, we give thanks to everyone who made us feel so very welcome and so very full with all of the lovely food ! Also a big thank you to Mona from Artomedes Photography who worked with us as a third photographer to ensure we captured all the details of this event filled wedding day. If you are planning your own wedding at East Wintergarden please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The venue is great, it is very easy to get to and given how quiet it is at the weekend it really does feel it’s all yours for the day!
